Women lead the technology sector in Spain

La gender inequality is still a reality to face in 2019. According to data from the INE, women currently represent 45% of the labor force of all workers in Spain; female unemployment is higher than 18%, compared to 15% in men; women work more than 70% of the part-time jobs, have lower pensions, and despite being more educated, hold few managerial positions and earn an average of 29% less than men.

However, it is not all bad news. Thanks to changes in education, culture, business vision and the evolution of legislation, important steps are being taken to achieve real equality in the labor market in Spain. Currently in our country the technology sector is led by women, who hold senior management positions at leading companies such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft, HP and LinkedIn.

Inequality, sexual harassment, and harassment based on sex in the workplace have serious consequences for the safety of workers and for the development of business activity. Companies are a social agent in which continuous labor and personal relationships are established, and they must be aware that management must be in line with the needs and demands of society.

A Plan for Equality

From Teralco Group We launched a strategic plan and in 2018 we implemented our first Equality Plan valid until 2020, following the guidelines established by Organic Law 3/2007. This plan arises with the desire to prevent and make visible the possible behaviors that could transgress the dignity, consideration and respect of the company's personnel.

The value of equality will mark the direction of human resources policies and internal and external communication of the entity over the next four years and will be integrated into the company transversally to achieve and maintain effective equal opportunities between women and men.
